Science Exploring

Kia ora,
This week we are working on our science experiments for the science fair this year.
I found it hard to chose what to use. I found it easy to get the equipment.
The learning behind this task was to find out which was faster.

Poetry lesson. No 2 What is rhyme?

Kia ora,

Today we are learning about poetry.

I enjoyed the task. I found it very easy.

The learning behind the task was to learn what rhyme is and how it works.

1: That rhyme is a main ‘clue’ that a piece of writing might be poetry.

2: What rhyme is.

Here is my poem:

leaf poem

Kia ora,

This week Miss Fletcher took us out side for a science lesson with leaves. There were different colours like gold, brown and orange.

Then when we came back into class we had to write a poem

about the leaves that we saw.

Here is my poem:

Is it poetry or prose

What is a force

Hello every one,
Today my class has done a template about what is a force. We had to describe and define a force.
My group had to help the other groups because we had a head start and finished first.
I learnt that there were two types of forces. A non touching force and a touching force.
The learning behind this task was to learn about a force.
This task was fast and easy.

Is Earth like a hard-boiled egg?

Kia ora

We are learning about what the Earth is like on the outside and the inside. We used hard-boiled eggs as mini-models for the earth. We got to design our own continents and islands on the outside of the egg shell. At the end of the experiment we got to eat the egg!

Here is the link to the science experiment report we wrote with the teacher at the end of our experiment.

Structure of the Earth

Kia ora,
We are learning about the structure of the Earth.
I learnt that the Earth is made up of 4 layers. They are:
Crust, Mantle, Outer core, Inner core.

Facts about each layer:
Crust -The crust is 8-40 kilometres thick and is Solid but Brittle, it is the first layer.
Mantle - The mantle has a thick rock but is soft, squishy and hot, it is the second layer.
Outer Core -The outer core is as hot as an oven that is at the highest level, it is the 3rd layer.
Inner Core -The inner core is hotter than all of the layers but it is solid
because of the pressure being push down on it this is the fourth layer.

Our group - Brooke Briggs, Me and Piata.
First we created a 3D image of the earth using soft clay.
We then cut the shape in half to show the different layers. After waiting for it to dry, we identified each layer by painting them in different colours.
Below are some pictures of our work.
